What is API? - Social Media Glossary

An API, or Application Programming Interface, allows one piece of software to interact with another. Quite simply, it allows one site to talk to another and transfer information.

For example, it is the API that allows you to post a Tweet and also have it update automatically on Facebook and LinkedIn.
