What is a Hit? - Social Media Glossary

A hit is calculated in web analytics for each file requested when a page or site loads.

This means that a if a blog post has 10 photos and the page has 10 posts, then each page view would generate over 100 hits. Because of this, many analytics tools no longer report this number since it is irrelevant to most business owners.

If a blogger is reporting the number of hits they receive, please ask them to clarify which term they are actually referring to. Most often they mean page views or unique visitors, which are very different things.
