What are cookies?Sunday, May 29, 2005
A cookie is a piece of text that your browser stores on your computer.
Cookies are used by websites for different reasons: they allow an online shopping cart to remember your purchases, a site to remember what you viewed last time and make recommendations, etc. They are also often used by ad networks to remember what ads you viewed on a previous visit so they can decide which ads to show you on your current visit. Some websites will also serve ads based on cookies stored from a different website, which is why you may see similar ads on the different websites you visit.
