Hashtag crashing is the practice of using unrelated hashtags, or hashtags that belong to a competitor or organization you are not a member of, in a tweet in order to garner more attention for your status update.
This method of tweeting is seen as spam and has a negative effect for the company tweeting rather than the desired positive marketing effect.
