free telephone directory assistance

If you don't have internet access on your phone, then you know how frustrating it can be to be away from your computer when you need to access phone or address information. Traditional directory assistance can cost anywhere from $1.99-$4 a call, which is often not worth it and can add up quickly.

Google, being the geniuses that they are, offers GOOG-411, which is free directory assistance via telephone. It works a lot more like their web search though. You can be specific, or you can search by subject and zip code. For example, you can call florists in a certain zip code. Google will even send you a text message with the information so that you have it on hand for later as well.

I include this number in the welcome packets I give to bridal parties, especially if many of the people are from out of town. It gives them an easy reference to find things in an unfamiliar location and it keeps them from calling my staff or the bride and groom's family on the weekend of the wedding to ask for tourist advice.

So next time you need directory assistance, try 800.GOOG-411 (800.466.4411) and save some pennies on your phone bill.
