Motivational Monday :: Cultivating Your Genius

Monday, May 26, 2008

I'm borrowing today's motivational truth from my friend Khris:

"If you knew how much work went into it, you wouldn't call it genius."
- Michelangelo

Brilliant things and ideas never happen on a whim. They are cultivated through experience, discipline and hard work. Even the sparks of inspiration that seem to come at a moment's notice come because we have previously trained our minds to look for inspiration, to see beauty in anything, and to think outside the box.

What are you doing to prepare for inspiration, to build up your own genius? If you need some exercise in this area, pick up a copy of Thinkertoys. It is hands down the best book for creative professionals who want to stretch their minds and talent. It will not give you easy answers, but instead it will help cultivate the way you think so that you see things in a way that others don't.
