One of the things I always find humorously ironic is when I come across a wedding planner who "specializes in weddings, events, bar/bat mitzvahs, meetings, conferences, retreats, birthday parties, anniversary parties, destination weddings, local weddings, bachelorette parties, bachelor parties, etc". It seems that they've completely missed the definition of what it means to specialize.
What do you specialize in? What is your niche in the event planning world? Trying to excel at it all will make you a jack of all events and master of none. Don't try to please everybody; by narrowing your niche you'll most likely end up more profitable than if you try to tackle every type of event out there.
