Company Name: La Boda {Spanish for 'the wedding'}

Number of Years in Business: 1

How did you get started in wedding planning?
I am highly organized and obsessed with details. I started doing corporate event planning for the InterContinental Hotel Group in Bogota, Colombia (where I was born and raised).  One of my best friends from college got engaged and I flew to Cartagena - UNESCO World Heritage Site - to help with the coordination of her wedding. I fell in love with it! It turned out absolutely gorgeous. A year later I got married and decided to pursue my dream. I moved to the USA and after going through an extensive program to become a Professional Wedding Consultant by the ACPWC, I launched La Boda (which means "the wedding" - I definitely wanted to incorporate my Hispanic roots). I couldn't be happier!

If you had to start over what one thing would you do differently?
I wish I had started sooner! And to not be afraid of my accent, but people love it! I am Latina and very proud of it.

What's your favorite item in your emergency kit?
My sewing kit. It has been such a big help! Many times before the wedding I am fixing someone's dress: bridesmaids', mothers', grandmothers'. It is a life saver!

What is the best piece of business advice you've ever received?

The highest reward of your work is not what you get for it, but what you become by it.

What two people (past or present) would you have as guests at a dinner party and why?

My parents. No one has ever made a significant impact in my life like them. They have showed me that perseverance and hard work is the key to success. I am so grateful for everything they have done. Also I wish I had the opportunity to meet Lady Diana. Her work was humanitarian not political. She was always concerned about people in need.

What are your three favorite blogs besides thesmartplanner.com?
Mmmm I love photography:
JD MabryPaul Johnson Photo, and Southern Weddings Magazine.
