How did you get started in wedding planning?
As a child my mother was a couture dress designer, so I was around weddings my entire life. After being laid off from my Network Engineering job, I needed a career that complimented the quality of life I wanted. Wedding planning allowed me to enjoy my passions at work everyday.
If you had to start over what one thing would you do differently?
I would educate myself more on the business side of event planning. Running a smart business is just as important as the service the business offers.
What's your favorite item in your emergency kit?
Cake Boxes and/or Silver Trays. We always need a cake box for the couple to keep the tradition of freezing the first tier of the wedding cake for their first anniversary. Silver trays always come in handy. Often at the end of the wedding, we will place the wedding favors on silver trays to expedite the guests leaving the venue. It's one last element of surprise.
What is the best piece of business advice you've ever received?
The best advice I received was "You have everything you need now, to be successful". That advice reminds me that I am destined for greatness.
Which two people (past or present) would you have as guests at a dinner party and why?
I would first choose my mother whom I lost to colon cancer eight years ago. She was full of wisdom, and everything I hope to be. I miss her dearly. Second choice is Michelle Obama. I would love to hear her story firsthand, and learn a few tips on being a wife, mother, and business woman.
