In March, I ordered the Kindle, an ebook reader from Amazon, because it made traveling a bit easier. Since then, I've read about 75 books on the device. I understand that not everyone will read at the pace I do, however, reading is vital to growth. It can sharpen your thinking, affirm choices you've made, and also allow you to see what's being said and taught that you simply don't agree with.
As we all gear up for a new year, I'd encourage you to make time in your schedule to include reading for your business. I also suggest making time for reading fiction as well since it stimulates creativity. As a springboard for your own business reading plan, I am giving away a Kindle to one of you.
Want to win? Here is how to enter:

Cancer Schmancer by Fran Dresher - helped me during those moments when I wanted to give up (after 6 different surgeries...I think you get it!). For business: Discover your strengths - Marcus Buckingham, The 21 irrefutable laws of leadership - John Maxwell and for fun, all of the Little Lady Agency series - Hester Browne.
Thanks for the great opportunity to win this!! Happy Holidays!
I recently finished "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" and it has really kicked me in the butt to get moving on my own dreams and goals.
One book I read that changed how I interact with people was Keith Ferrazzi's Never Eat Alone. I read it as college freshman and now 3 years later I still implement some of the suggestions I learned. It gives the term 'networking' a whole new meaning- and makes it not such the dirty word it has evolved to mean. I'd definitely recommend to both industry vets and those just starrting out and all in between.

The book I would have to say really made an impact on me was Fast Track Photographer by Dane Sanders. It really made me think outside the box to make me a better person and photographer!
Hands down the book that helped me the most was Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk! Thank you for the awesome contest!!!
This would be the best Xmas gift!
My favorite book I have ever read that has the most impact in not only my business but in life is The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement by ~ Eliyahu M. Goldratt
This book shows you how to do critical thinking in a short time span, how to identify issues in your processes then how to fine tune your process to actually make them productive.
This is a fantastic idea, Liene! Looks like I came back to the blogging world just in time! ;)
One book that really influenced me in life was "Smart Women Finish Rich", by David Bach. Reading that book demystified the world of Personal Finance for me, and showed me that even math-wary women could become independent and financially successful. After this book, I actually changed my college major to Finance, and the rest is history.
Thanks for having such an exciting giveaway!

i have two! the personal one is eat, pray, love. i felt that book was SO therapeutic and taught me a lot about life and how to be nice to yourself. very, very important! the second one is FISH! it's a business book about boosting morale and improving results, especially in customer service. it has really helped me in managing my team and inspiring them to improve and stay motivated and happy. if my staff is happy, i'm happy! thanks for the giveaway :)
I would have to say the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.It is some of the best advice I have ever been given!
The Personal Touch by Terrie Williams has stayed with me throughout the years. Her tips and strategies are common sense and thoughtful for succeeding in business.
One book that I continually pick up just to make sure that I'm doing things correctly is: "Basic Black: Home Training for Modern Times" By Karen Elyse Hudson and Karen Grigsby Bates.
These two always take me back to charm school where my mom put my sisters and I in while an adolescent. Very vital for any home and not just for a business. Etiquette is the main reason I wanted to get into the industry along with dressing up and helping to manifest visions becoming a reality.
The book that has inspired me most in recent years came as a total surprise. 'A Piece of Cake' by Cupcake Brown is a memoir of a young girls tough upbringing within a loveless family. Her passion and drive to succeed and to one day become a lawyer always makes me think when I think something is impossible, you just need to push yourself and really you can achieve anything you want with your life.
A fascinating book.
I will be launching my event planning company in January and the book that has helped me prepare for my launch is “Wedding Planning & Management” by Maggie Daniels & Carrie Loveless.
Happy Holidays,

Book: How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

My favorite book is still Seth Godin's Purple Cow. It was the first book that I read when I decided to go into business for myself. The lessons that I learned from it helped me to see that I needed to infuse my personality into my business and service offerings. While I offer a tangible product, it is the service that sets us apart. This book showed me how to use this to market to our target client.
What an awesome gift Liene! I have been thinking about getting a Kindle for 2010 because Nate and I have so much traveling to do and lugging a bunch of books around is HEAVY.
Let's see... to pick a book that has helped me in business or life... for business I'm really enjoying Tribes right now. And in life, The 5 Love Languages taught me a lot about myself and how to interact with the people in my life. I use things I learned in that book almost every day!
It may sound cliche, but The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a book that I have turned to time and again. I read it initially as a high school student eager to succeed in life, referred to it frequently again in college and still have my well-worn copy on the bookshelf at home.
(A close second is the AP Style Guide. I'm a stickler for proper punctuation!)
I'm an avid reader too! So sign me up for the Kindle contest! I found "The Disney Way: Harnessing the Mgmt. Secrets of Disney in Your Company" to be inspiring. I love the perception of "Disney Magic" and am intrigued by how it is accomplished. The book taught me to stay true to my values and stay the course with my business, just like Walt. It is full of before and after business cases, as well.
Getting things done
by david allen
This helped me organize my professional and work life. It seems like every year the world is moving faster and there is always more to do. The GTD system gives my a system to deal with tasks and not let things sleep though the cracks. Also it give me more confidence knowing I have a plan to deal with anything that comes my way.
My favorite read of late is by Julia Child "My Life in France" - inspite of language and cultural barriers Julia found her calling, overcame the challenges and persevered...she helped me to rethink my self-imposed obstacles, redefine my goals and get cracking.
I know this sounds funny but, You Can Farm by Joel Salatin. Bought to humor my husband's preoccupation of having our own farm someday, it is filled with valuable advice about relationships, pricing, valuing yourself and what you do, investment in business, and we're not through with it yet! We are already incorporating its lessons into our present work lives. It's been the surprise of the year.
Liene -
Fish! A Remarkable Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results has always been a favorite of mine. The book reinforces the need to BE PRESENT. Many times,I am multitasking when having meetings with team members. This book reminds me to ACTIVELY listen. It's also a simple, quick read and it a great book to share with co-workers and others.

A Girl's Guide To Starting Your Own Business has been the most helpful for me so far. I am still in the process of learning more about entrepreneurship and exploring my opportunities. This book really showed me what the process of starting a business looks like, and gave me encouragement and motivation to believe I could do it.
One of my favorite reads was "The Starbucks Experience" It opened my eyes a lot about integrity and relationships with your employees.
Bridal Bargains really helped me out. Since I run a budget bride website, it made me think of what kind of stuff I need to do to make my wedding really budget friendly.
It's not about the bike. lance armstrong. helped my husband and i get through his chemotherapy.
love this contest!!!!
Lovemarks: The Future beyond Brands by Kevin Roberts really helped me think about my business & Marketing differently and for the better.
Most currently: "Emotionally Engaged" has helped with getting through some relationship worries :)
Three Cups of Tea, By David Mortensen.
Amazing story of perserverance and helping others. Even if you have nothing, you can still help others. I am so inspired!
The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. Helped my husband and I get on track finacially...both personally and within our business. This would be great!
"Never Eat Alone" by Keith Ferrazzi taught me everything I know about networking, but mostly it eased my fears and misconceptions about networking as a means of business building. I love how he teaches about reciprocity in connections, and his voice is very accessible and interesting. It really changed the way I approach others in my industry and has made a positive impact on other social areas of my life as well. A must-read for any businessperson!
Purple Cow by Seth Godin--it completely transformed my thoughts about what it means to be ahead of the game in creativity and how to stand out and continue to evolve.

"Home is Where the Heart is" by Isle Crawford (http://www.amazon.com/Home-Where-Heart-Ilse-Crawford/dp/0847826856)
I found this book in the lobby of the W in San Diego a few years ago and read the whole thing while sipping a mojito.
I found it the first quarter I started Interior Design school and it encouraged me to follow the type of design style I believed in instead of the same stuff everyone in class was doing. It's been a harder road, but well worth it this year when a teacher told me I was one of the most well rounded students he's seen in awhile :)
This is a great giveaway! I've been wanting a Kindle for awhile know, I REALLY hope I win ;-)
The TP Entrepreneur. His book is so smart and so helpful to any small business owner or entrepreneur. I highly recommend it!
Go For Gold-Inspiration to Increase Your Leadership Impact by John C. Maxwell. A quick daily read for inspiration and business direction.
Small is the New Big by Seth Godin
I think it is a must read for everyone in the wedding industry since most vendors involved with weddings are small business owners. I love how Seth reiterates that a business is not limited by its size, but by the size of its ideas, ambitions, etc.
"Small is the new big only when the person running the small thinks big."
I have been reading Wedding Photography Unveiled: Inspiration and Insight from 20 Top Photographers by Jaqueline Tobin. I follow many of the photographers featured in this book (on their blogs or twitter) and it's great because it answers many of the questions I would love to ask them, but might not have the guts to! I love the insight into the business of wedding photography as well as their personal thoughts on the artistic aspect of the job. Plus it has gorgeous photos that make me want to be a better photographer!
Thank you for this opportunity! Happy Holidays!
How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Classic but still applies to business, especially if you are in the service industry. Great for anyone who needs help interacting with their clients.
For Business: Selling the Invisible by Harry Beckwith & Total Money Makeover, by Dave Ramsey. Running your business debt free and knowing how to sell your services, rocks.
Personal: The Proper Care & Feeding of a Marriage, by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Don't laugh, she knows what she is talking about, & she tells you straight up. My husband and I are closer then ever.
Thanks for all your hard work Liene & Team! Happy Holidays
Roshel
Liene,
Thanks for such a cool contest!!
One of my all time favorite novels (& movies) is "Marjorie Morningstar" by Herman Wouk. I read it at the age of 17; the same age as the character (a nice Jewish girl from the upper west side of NY) in the 30's. The themes are timeless, even after all these years. I know many "Marjories"-I think there is a little of her in any young woman.
I loved "Outliers"! And it reaffirmed, in a very entertaining way, many theories I had about what it takes to be successful-be aware, smart & ambitious enough to take advantage of your circumstances!
“The Go-Getter Girl’s Guide” by Debra Shigley. The book gave me the confidence boost I needed to go after my career goals.
I found "Now, Discover Your Strengths" by Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton very helpful in really pushing myself, in both design and business. I read the book with a large group of co-workers and then we got a list of everyone's strengths...it really made me understand the best ways to approach situations with people, depending on their strengths.
Thanks for the give-away, Liene!
I don't read very many business-related books, but "No Impact Man" by Colin Beavan is really making me rethink a lot of how I choose to live my life and I would recommend it.
Wishcraft: How to Get What You Really Want by Barbara Scher. First published in 1979, it found its way to me 10 years later. In my mid-30s, I was at a crossroads; this book kick-started me into a new life. Within 6 months of reading Wishcraft, I applied for a grant and opened an upscale womens' accessory shop. On a shoestring no less. I found my great love while operating that store: marketing communications. Today I run a service business. That book launched it all for me.
My husband and I fight over electronics and I wanted a Kindle and he wanted a Sony Book Reader thingie... well, he got his, and I never got mine - GO FIGURE! So I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a Kindle!
The book that really changed me and my opinion of marketing and business is "Fun is Good" by Mike Veek
It's about creating joy and passion in the workplace and really loving your career.
Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi. It taught me to never feel guilty for networking. It is imperative to connect with others to succeed, and lucky for me I find other folks fascinating.
Great contest idea! You always have fab book suggestions, so I'm going to leave those alone. I have two recommendations, neither is a business book:
1) The End of Science by John Horgan. Blew my mind. It is hilarious and eye-opening and mind-expandingly awesome.
2) My Stroke of Insight by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. Also blew my mind. I highly recommend this book to anyone, it will change your life.
Happy reading!
So great to see everyone's book recommendations. Thanks for that opportunity, Liene.
I love The Girl's Guide to Being a Boss by Caitlin Friedman and Kimberly Yorio
There aren't enough good business books for women and this is a great one. Being a boss is a whole new aspect to running a business and this is great guide as to how to get started.
I'm also a big fan of Creating Customer Evangelists by Ben McConnell
The way clients find businesses is evolving and having customer evangelists is definitely an aspect that business owners should consider. In addition to explaining why, McConnell has some great case studies that I think can speak to every business owner.
What a great giveaway!
I'd have to say "Make Today Count" by John C. Maxwell has been a huge help to my personal and professional life.
I see a lot of books I've never heard of, so I'll be making my library list from this blog post ;)
My personal favorite book is Tim Sanders' Love is the Killer App . It has changed the way I think about business and personal relationships.
Thanks Liene for all your great book suggestions. I think I have read nearly all of them!
What a great contest! I think any wedding professional should read
Barbara Wallace's
"Wedding Vendor Handbook - Get to the Top and Stay There."
Also, I love "Improv Yourself: Business Spontaneity at the Speed of Thought" by Joseph Keefe. It's great for improving your ability to think on your feet using improv skills!
I have three books that have made a huge difference for me:
- Selling the Invisible by Harry Beckwith - the book is so full of amazing, incredible insights on how to sell -- so important in our industries where we are selling a service that isn't something tangible really. I can't recommend this one enough!
- Fast Track Photographer by Dane Sanders - Dane has pointed out many times that I actually embody the FTP mentality all on my own - I found myself nodding my head all the way through this book in agreement. We don't have to be secretive - we can be giving and sharing with our knowledge, be FOR each other, and all get ahead!
- The 4 Hour Work Week - right as I launched my business, I heard Tim Ferriss speak at SXSWi. Anyone that attended got a pre-release copy of the book for free. Both his talk and the book reminded me that it is so important to simplify your life and outsource what you can so that your business isn't so all consuming that you have nothing else. It is brilliant book, and so inspiring!
Speaking of inspiring people - thank you, Liene! You're so supportive of the community - it is awesome!
Thank you for running such a cool contest!
I have to admit that I'm more of a fiction reader since I love the escape from reality from time to time.
My favorite has always been The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I don't really have an explanation of why it was useful in my life but I love the storyline and loved reading about a story from a different time.
I also love The Wedding Book by Mindy Weiss. It's one of the best wedding books out there with so much detail and information. I think it's great for both a bride or any wedding planner!
Getting To Yes: Roger Fisher and William Ury
This book was a huge help for me because I am in sales. It helped me understand to always ask the "Why" behind the question in order to better understand another person's position.
By understanding their interest, you can better position yourself to add value, prevent conflict, and settle a negotiation with more desired results for both parties.
This book is also great outside of the office when dealing with difficult people or difficult situations in everyday life.
What a great contest, if anything for us all to a have an amazing list of inspiring books to read! BTW my brother failed kindergarten too for a similar reason.
A book that has inspired me and that I can seek comfort in is, The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. Her struggle in life wasn't so obvious for many of her younger years, and that helped her forge ahead unknowing all the obstacles. Once she came to the realization of the issues in her life, she did something about it, and succeeded (this is how the books starts, so there is no spoiler here :). It brought me to tears, and I think of this book often to inspire me to not let the hard times (whatever they may be in work or life) get me down, and just, forge ahead.
The book that has helped me in my life is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. It gives readers four agreements to make with themselves to improve their life tremendously. One of the agreements, "Don't take anything personally", has also helped me in business.
After your rave reviews of the Kindle, I'd absolutely love to try one myself!
Let's see - I think the book that helped me the most in my business are Malcom Gladwell's Outliers; when I'm surrounded daily by so much talent from so many different people, the book helped me re-focus on those things that make me unique and different.
But what I read most often is actually fiction! It's such a nice mental break from business - right now I'm reading Her Fearful Symmetry by the same author as the Time Traveler's Wife. Both incredibly powerful books.
Thanks for the opportunity Liene!
This isn't a book, but just as important - I read a newspaper everyday (sometimes multiple, sometimes just headlines). This has been more helpful to me than anything both personally as in business, as I find I can talk to anyone and not feel intimated, regardless of their success.
But I think the Kindle would be perfect to help me catch up on a few of those that I have not yet read in other's comments.
How fun!
Now Discover Your Strengths! This book helped me realize that all the things about me I thought were weird are actually strengths! It changed my life.
"Getting Things Done" by David Allen really helped me find a way to get organized both at work and at home. Keeping things on paper rather than worrying about forgetting them has really freed my mind for more creative endeavors :)
thank you for the chance :)
I have to give credit to my friend Allison for getting me to start reading! My favorite so far to read was the Twilight Saga. It helped me find an escape to my sometimes stressed life with my husband and three boys and work!
I find myself reading every little chance I get. Before I go to bed, in car and even in the kitchen when I am cooking. My kids even look at me funny and say to me "You read for fun?" I say
YUP! you should try it!"
So when I started hearing about the kindle, I thought "What a perfect thing for me!" If I win one it will be with me 24/7. :-)
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. Powerful, unexpected and compelling. I would love to be able to read on the go!
Purple Cow by Seth Godin. Doesn't that title alone make you want to read and find out more?
Wow, I just added a bunch of books to my reading list. Thanks to all your readers for the great suggestions.
One of my favorite books is Soul Proprietor by Jane Pollak. Written by a "lifestyle entrepreneur", Jane shares bits of wisdom for running a creative business.
From an editorial review: Pollak's story illustrates that structuring a business to reflect personal values is the key to success."
Leadership by Rudy Giuliani. A person can be a leader in any job but not many people do it well.
What a great contest, Liene! When I made the move from corporate events to weddings, Mindy Weiss's The Wedding Book was a lifesaver. It includes so many little details - as a newbie in the industry it was invaluable (as was The Smart Planner!!).
I love The Lovely Bones. It definitely shows that while you sometimes might feel that the world revolves around you, in reality, it doesn't. I have probably read it more times than is normal =)
It's an old one, but "The 5 People You Meet in Heaven" changed my life in many ways. My Father died 3 months before I was born and this book in some strange way makes me feel more connected to him.
Wonderful, short read.
Hands down, Seth Godin's Purple Cow. Finding what makes you different can be your saving grace in a crowded market
Creative Visualization. - I take the practice very seriously, and believe to my core that I can create the life of my dreams by focusing my energy and concentration. I would suggest it to all.
Oh my. I believe that reading books are a privilege that so many of us take for granted -- Especially women living in the United States in the year 2009.
The book, "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier" taught me about a brutal world that CHILDREN endure because of the greed of sociopaths. It inspired me to act, to talk and to give to causes that help women and children in the Congo.
One of my favorite business books is "Attitude is Everything: 10 Life-Changing Steps to Turning Attitude Into Action." by Keith Harrell. I think he figured out the Secret long before Oprah did.
I refer back to this book quite often when I want to whine or complain about running a business or raising a family.
How We Love by Milan and Kay Yerkovich. It helps you understand how the family you grew up in impacts your marriage and other relationships. I highly recommend it.
P.S. I did kindergarten twice too! =)
I really liked "Clear Blogging: How People Blogging Are Changing the World and How You Can Join Them" as it was the first time I had really thought about how information was really dispersed. When I had grasped the notion that information is in the hands of the people with blogging and not kept under lock and key in the ivory tower...well that's when I was hooked. :)
Wow, what a generous giveaway! I'm a journalist and I always find myself recalling sentences from Wayne Freedman's It Takes More than Good Looks to Succeed at Television News. Freedman stresses the importance of telling a story through the eyes of a real person. Not only does it make for better storytelling, but it helps me concentrate on things that impact the people in my community. I think that's a good lesson, no matter what business you're in--focus on people!
The book that has helped me the most is The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. It's enlightening and inspirational.
The Boss of You by Lauren Bacon and Emira Mears is such an inspiration to anyone starting their own business. They not only tell you about the practical things you need to know, but they guide you on this introspective journey about why you wanted to start a business in the first place. They help you rediscover that passion and creativity that sometimes gets lost in the day to day stuff.
How To Get Ideas by Jack Foster
Foster discusses every day things you can do to inspire yourself and open your mind for new ideas. It's a great read and truly did open my mind to so many ideas! Plus, Foster is hilarious and has little drawings along the pages. :)
Awesome idea, Liene! My husband did kindergarten twice too...you're not alone! I'm adding all these suggestions to my book list and am looking forward to hitting the library.
I'm surprised that Michael Gerber's 'The E-Myth' hasn't been mentioned yet! That book is my hands-down favorite and is helping me make big, smart decisions for my company. I could read it again and again and have even bought copies for my 'small wedding biz' friends.
Tim Ferriss' 'Four Hour Workweek' ranks pretty highly too although it's more of a motivational tool for entrepreneurs than anything else. Props also go to Seth Godin and Steven Covey, two of my other favorites.
Thanks Liene for this giveaway! And what a great idea to have the comments be helpful books! Love it.
My most cherished book that help me start up my business is:
The Boss of You: Everything A Woman Needs to Know to Start, Run, and Maintain Her Own Business by Emira Mears, Lauren Bacon
It's everything I needed to know to start my small, creative-based business from the ground up. It's worth it's weight in gold.
The Alchemist.
Omens are everywhere, do what you're meant to with your life and they'll guide you along the way.
Retire Young Retire Rich by Robert Kiyosaki has been a true inspiration. It inspired me to think bigger and better!!
Hard question! I used to read avidly and was inspired daily, now I'm a grad student and I'm always reading for school. . maybe I need to pick up some of the books off this list!
I tend to get inspiration these days online--blogs, great sites like yours, etc. The last business related book I bought was Wedding Photography Unveiled by Jacqueline Tobin--pretty pictures and ideas to go with!
Kevin Roberts’ book, _Lovemarks: the Future Beyond Brands_, really got me thinking about how client relationships foster brand loyalty. I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and have read several books, but this one stuck out to me. It was very inspiring.
It's a fiction book, but Lonesome Gods by Louis L'Amour spurred on a love of great books. One of the characters in the novel lives alone in the desert and his "education" is reading the great works of history.
Great idea! I have been eyeballing the Kindle here lately :)
My favorite is Jeffrey Gitomer's Little Black Book of Connections. I love his writing style - humorous, direct and great advice!
A book that has helped in business is a book I had to read many years ago as part of our Professional Development Program at my alma mater. The Ropes to Skip & The Ropes to Know by R. Richard Ritti & Steve Levy. The book was required reading and delved into Organizational Behavior. 15 years later, many of the principles still stand true in learning how to tactfully and appropriately handle 'situations'.
I can't do just one book so here are my top 2:
1. The Little Prince by Antoine St. Exupery. This book is just so amazing because I read it at a relatively younger age. It really made me change my outlook on life. One of my favorite parts was when they are talking about the difference between children and adults is that a child says the house is beautiful - it is painted blue and has red flowers but adults will say the house is beautiful - it cost $250,000.
2. I'm Proud of You by Tim Madigan. It is the story of how the author became friends with Mr. Rogers. It is a really touching story with lots of wonderful advice and it REALLY made me appreciate what an incredible influence Mr. Rogers had on so many people. Ugh, I'm getting choked up just writing this. I think I'll go read it again right now.
As a former English teacher, I have read countless "thinking" novels, so I'm still into my reading phase where I can just pick up whenever I have time. All of the Janet Evanovich books, now I'm on 3 To Get Deadly, have helped me to turn off, or at least down, my design head, and relax, which is so important when working from home.
-Lori R.
There are SO many wonderful books on business out there and never enough time to read them all!
You, Inc: The Art of Selling Yourself is a little gem. Make sure to put it on your reading list! It's a great recipe to doing well in a small business by selling yourself.
The book that has truly changed my perspective this year is The Fast Track Photographer by Dane Sanders. He really makes you stop and open your eyes to consider all the aspects of your business, not just your photography. Well worth the read!
When my husband and I started a photo company, I didn't know much about running one. "The Business of Studio Photography" by Edward R. Lilley was so helpful. It outlined all the details without using too much fancy photographer lingo. I found myself cornering tons of pages.
Thanks for hosting such a fabulous contest! My Mother-in-law has a kindle and LOVES it.
The Modern Girl's Guide to Life has been a great resouce for me. It has information on everything from how to write an amazing thank you note to how to talk change the oil in your car!
It's a great "go to" book for lots of my everday questions.
Jeffrey Gitomer's Little Red Book of Selling! I love the unconventional style and how his thoughts were condensed down into a simple practical application with the nonsense-fluff left by the wayside.
Blink by Malcom Gladwell taught me so much about first impressions and snap judgments.
I recommend Michael Gerber's The E-Myth Revisited for sure. Every small business owner should read this! Work on your business, don't get trapped in it.
Thank you Liene for fostering an awesome community! :) Love Think Splendid!
As corny as it sounds, Ivanka Trump's new book has really helped me. I just started a new job where I'm in a senior management position and as a young-ish female, there were lots of relevant obstacles that were discussed.
I would have to say that business-wise, I think "Idiots Guide to Blogging" was the most helpful. I started blogging 2 years ago and that led to freelance writing for me.
I really liked Outliers. I read it in college for a class, and then read it again once I entered the workforce. It has really made a different in the way I perform my full-time job and my part-time job (wedding planner).
What a great reading list we have here now! I keep Tom Peters' book 'The Brand You' close to hand and find his enthusiasm and go gt it attitude just brilliant!
I have a few that have been quite helpful but the one I am currently reading: Getting Things Done by David Allen. It just made me realize something that should have been so obvious, this is, one of the reasons we get overwhelmed is because we set ridiculous deadlines in the first place.
Burnout is real and it just took this book to make me do things a little differently now :)
I really enjoyed reading The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. It's amazing how little things can "tip" and turn into the next trend, and the things I learned from that book will be useful to me when I start a business of my own (hopefully)!
I love the opportunity to win a Kindle but more than anything I love the new reading recco's I'm getting from everyone. This is an awesome contest.
The best business book I have ever read is Hug Your Customers: The Proven Way To Personalize Sales and Achieve Outstanding Results by Jack Mitchell. It's an incredible book about great customer service.
Thank you for doing this very generous giveaway!
Selling the Invisible by Harry Beckwith has been my favorite business book so far. There are so many great ideas and advice from this book that I have implemented in by business.
I know you'll never believe it but "The Single Girl's Guide to Marrying a Man, His Kids, and His Ex-wife" has helped me A LOT as I am a "stepmom in training" as I like to call it. I have no friends with co-parenting experiences and it has opened my eyes to the wonderful world of step parenting!
Great giveaway! I'm making notes of some of the titles listed above too- love this post. I'm currently reading "Blue Ocean Strategy"- W. Chan Kim & Renée Mauborgne. It is helping me focus on the big picture and reminding me not to be consumed by the competition.
"Educating Esme: Diary of a Teacher's First Year," by Esme Raji Codell. Insightful and inspriational!
Reading Moby Dick several times in different stages of life has been an eye-opener partially because of the content, but mostly because of the depth: there is a simple story that can be enjoyed while young, then there are archetypal characters and situations that make sense as you get a little older, followed by the rich metaphors that, as an adult, explode out of sections like the Monkey Rope chapter.
It's the kid of book that you can chart your progress as a human being by, and checking in with the White Whale from time to time lets me know where I am and how I'm doing.
Most influential book I ever read: The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I read it in college during a "break" from being a business major. That book and class helped me decide to study literature. I am so glad that I did.
Thanks Liene for the contest.
hi liene, i saw your link on allison howell's facebook. your company looks amazing! i am a wedding and event planner base in southern california. my favorite book was actually referred to me by allison howell funny enough.
The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It
i think any small business owner needs to read it! it really gave me insight into how i need to be a more balanced business owner.
A book that made a big impact on my life is Me To We by Craig Kielburger & Marc Kielburger. It reminded me of how blessed I am, and to always think of how I can help others.
It's awesome of you to do such a great giveaway. :) Thank you.
'Eat, Pray, Love' by Elizabeth Gilbert helped me through a rough patch in my life when I was doing a lot of soul-searching. I found it therapeutic and endearing at a time when I felt lost and alone.
miksue13@yahoo.ca
Cancer Schmancer by Fran Dresher was a great book that helped me in life when I was feeling depressed and helpless when my Mom got diagnosed with cancer. Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway :) I've wanted one of these for my Mom ever since I saw them on Oprah!
hether78(at)gmail(dot)com
I've read so many of the books mentioned already - they are all so very good. And those that I haven't read - gives me a good reading list for next year!
But a recent book that I found meaningful was 'for one more day' by Mitch Albom. Books that hit home and remind you how to live your life are especially important to me. It's so easy to get wrapped up in "working" and trying to always "do it better" (which is why we read so many of the books listed above). For One More Day reminded me that we don't get second chances with family. Time does pass. People do die. It's a good reminder of that cliche saying "work to live, not live to work". We may love what we do...but it can wait a day.
Thanks for the contest Liene!
I have several 'favorites' but the one that first came to mind is The Power of Flow by Charlene Belitz and Meg Lundstrom.. I admit it can be a bit out there for some but I found it truly inspiring both in my personal and professional life. It speaks of synchronicity, connectivity and living mindfully and who doesn't need a bit of that in their lives?
What a great idea Liene! I love reading everyone's suggestions! I agree with everyone that Seth Godin, David Allen, and Malcom Gladwell are fantastic reads, but I'm endorsing "Creating Customer Evangelists" by Ben McConnell. Thanks!
Hi Liene,
Thanks for the idea of having ppl share books that have helped them in their business or life. I've gone down all the posts and made a list of "must" reads for myself!
I'm honestly not a big reader but have the best intentions. You've raved about the Kindle so much that I'd love to check it out (if not for me then for my hubby aka the avid reader).
My 2 favs are:
The girl's guide to starting your own business by Caitlin Friedman & Kimberly Yorio
- This book was recommended by Sara Bauleke with Bella Notte (DC) and so far I love it! As someone that has recently decided to start a business of their own the book is very down to earth and gives some priceless advice.
A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle ("Awakening to Your Life's Purpose")
- This book was not an easy read, but was extremely eye-opening and thought-provoking. I highly recommend it for everyone; especially during the trying times we've had over the past couple of years.
Thanks again!
Raquel
great giveaway liene! i'm a huge lover of the book "good to great". :)
What an amazing giveaway! Thank you so much for offering it. As everyone else that has posted here, I would love to win a Kindle. I have to admit I have been coveting it for a while.
My favorite book is The Purple Cow by Seth Godin. I've actually read this book a few times because it's so easy to read and Godin is so inspiring. I never get tired of the stories and lessons he shares in it.
Last year I read "Blessed are the cheesemakers", a story of two cheese makers out of Ireland who make cheese because they love to make cheese. I love this story for so many reasons (not just because its a "cheesy" love story..LOL, little pun on words there)In the end I was left feeling happy, full of love for my husband and a little hungry :) This book made me see that I do what I do because I love it, and its because I love what I do that makes me a success. I have since read this book 3 times and everytime I read it I get something new out of it :)
I'm a fan of The (Disney) Imagineering Workout forgetting the imagination flowing. And also E-Myth's.
Interesting. I love reading too, and I got held back in my second grade reading class. Just finished a Master's in English. hmm.
My book is Rich Dad Poor Dad. It made me realize that doing what everyone else does is NOT the way for me to reach my goals.
What a great idea - I love love love reading and have been hinting to "Santa" about getting a Kindle.
One of the first books I read when launching my business was "Chicken Soup for the Entrepreneur's Soul". It had stories about 1-800-FLOWERS, Mrs. Fields Cookies, and many other great companies. Many of their stories resonated with me and mirroed my own struggles. It gave me the extra "oomph" to stay couragous and move forward.
I still look at it from time to time and remember the feelings I had when reading it.
Thanks so much Liene.

Liene, you are so generous to offer this prize. I've waited for days on what to post, as I have read many amazing business books that others have posted.
But honestly, I had to go back to one of the best books I read in HIGH SCHOOL on my own, no book report. It changed my life and that was the real start of my event planning (I planned the events that basically raised enough money for our senior trip).
That book was: How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
I'm going to to stick to my old school answer, because it means the most to me. Crossing fingers for the Kindle.
Write It Down, Make It Happen by Henriette Anne Klauser totally got me in the mindset that I can do what I want, as long as I believe it enough to write it down. =)
When I was in high school I read this paperback novel titled A Woman of Substance, a tale of a poor girl who created a store called Hartes which is modeled after Harrods of London. This is your basic rags to riches story that is filled with personal triumphs and family drama.
It has been one of my favorite stories because I was
completely absurded by the author's description of Emma's stores and the beautifully hand prepared items.
Of course Emma didn't have the ideal life. She made mistakes along the way. Some might even say that she was far too ambitious and obsessed. At times she lost sight of her famil.
At the end of the story she finally realizes that she was far from perfect but her determination, strength, and unapologetic persistence made her a great businesswoman.
This tale has stuck with me!
I know that it is a work of fiction but I have tried in my life and work to be a woman is substance. That is the message that I love from this tale!
I was fascinated with how
there are so many - but one of the most important for me was reading "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.
This book is an experiential process, a 12-week journey of artistic self-discovery. And for me it was this journey that helped me identify my goals and give me the confidence to pursue the career path I am on today.
Well the book that has helped me the most recently has been the E-Myth: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About it. I'm actually listening the audiobook and am enjoying it a lot.
Thanks Liene for the opportunity to win this fabulous prize.
Aww..hopefuly I'm not late for comment. "Balanced Scorecard" by Kaplan and Norton, a revolutionize strategic thinking not just inspired me more in business strategy but also in real life. Balanced Scorecard give a clear path for setting up strategy and initiate it in real action. "Blue Ocean Strategy" by Chan Kim & Renee Mauborgne also good invention in how to make competition irrelevant, we have our own uniqeness. My favorite fiction is Paulo Coelho's "Veronika Decides to Die" about why precious life could be waste, but by the end love will bring the real meaning of life.
this contest is a great idea to get people to share their resources. I have read many of the books here and look forward to reading the rest. Here are my books that helped me along the way: Women thou art loose by T. D. Jakes (This book allowed me to be free from the mental and emotional blocks so that i can function in the creative mindset that God had blessed me with. And Attract Clients by W. Lloyd Williams. (This book is for the finance industry, but allowed me to restrategize the way I work with clients.
Best book I've read as a recent bride would be The Subconscience Bride. It helped me realize that the emotional breakdowns were completely normal.
I know this is going to sound weird, but Pearl S. Buck's "A Good Earth" was a very influential book. My gramma gave it to me when I was 10 or 12 and I've read it a few times since. It really reminds me that no one is responsible for me but myself and that if I don't take care of myself, no one else will.
Also, Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle," because meat is icky and now I have something to share with other people to help them understand my views in 90 pages or less (plus, it got me sent to the school counselor in the 5th grade when I had to do a diorama book report and had a plastic man drowning in a can of Spam filled with red paint).
Finally, George Orwell's "1984" because I'm SURE that Big Brother is watching my TiVo and internet habits.
Oops, sorry I had so much trouble limiting myself to just "a" book. :-/
"What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20: A Crash Course on Making Your Place in the World" by Tina Seeliq.
Although many of us wish we are still 20, the book has many great advice for would-be entrepreneurs of any age. It's easy to read, and even for successful entrepreneurs, the book offers practical tools and tips that serve as great reminders.
The Real Deal: My Story from Brick Lane to "Dragons' Den" by james caan
Loved the determination and drive to succeed...
This book made me more determined
Great contest, Liene! Love reading everyone's comments... my library list is growing :) The most helpful business books I've read to date are Jeffrey Gitomer's "Little Red Book of Selling" and "Little Black Book of Connections". Both are super easy reads with very usable advice.
This is so cool. I love reading and especially love management books. My two faves:
*Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies by James Collins and Jerry Porras. I read this in my MBA program & dig the real world examples & emphasis on having a vision. This is where the BHAG principle came from.
*Winning by Jack and Suzy Welch. Jack was the keynote at a conference I planned and his message in this book will give one a swift motivational kick. Really straightforward, never dry and totally gutsy book.
I am such an avid reader! I'm really enjoying reading all of these comments, I'm going to have to make a reading list of all of them to keep on my wall for 2010!~ New Year's Resolution to read ALL of them! I'd say that The Purple Cow is probably my favorite. Not only was it a great marketing resource for my day to day Advertising life, it has given me great tips at starting my own business and how to stand out in the crowd!
I loved Book Yourself Solid. It really helped me when it was time to redo my website.
I really enjoyed reading _The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing_ with my wife as an assignment for our f22 re-brand. Now we're quick to point out any time we see another company or billboard or whatever else utilize one of the laws well (or break one)!
A few years ago, I read _Mountains beyond Mountains_ by Tracy Kidder, and it is still an influential book to me, about a Harvard doctor who did something truly good with his time and funds.
I've just spent the last half-hour reading through all the comments... I'll definitely be adding some to my Christmas list!
grant(at)grantisaacstudio(dot)com
I used to read all the time...2-3 books at a time. But now with the kids and business, I have so much other stuff to carry along, that I never grab a book to take with also.
I loved the Purple Cow book. It was extremely helpful, and I'm thinking to go back and read it again now. =)
I am an avid reading putting away a book a week given my long commute :) I suffered from Anorexia while in high school and the book Wasted by Marya Hornbacher was profoundly influential on helping me to recover. The Kindle is on my christmas list so I hope, hope, hope I win! :)
The E-Myth is my favorite business book. It helped me move my business to the next level and learn how to delegate and trust the people that work for me.
I also loved What They Don't Teach You at Harvard Business School.
One of my favorite books to enjoy was "Eat. Pray. Love."
What a great giveaway!
As crazy as this sounds " Oh, The Places You'll Go" By Dr. Seuss. My mother gave it to me when I turned 18 and told me to really read it. My life could go wherever I wanted. After I read it, I knew that I really wanted to do something that would make me happy. Nothing helped me more than knowing it was option.
What a fantastic giveaway! I love people that promote reading in this time of tv and video games. I read Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert a few years ago while I was going through a really bad place in my life. This book helped me realize that going through tribulations can help mold you into a much different and better person if you allow yourself to be open to it. I don't think I would have made it through without my faith and Ms. Gilbert's willingness to share her story.
The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman -- My husband was previously engaged before we were and he was given this book by the minister the first go around. His fiance never read it but he did and he took it to heart. They (obviously) didn't make it to the alter. Before he even proposed to me he asked me to read the book. It helped me understand his love and now we're married and couldn't be happier. I've passed it on to my best friends and my own parents.
Mere Christianity - C.S. Lewis
...very eye and mind opening!
I hope I didn't miss the deadline! I love the book "Writing Down The Bones" by Natalie Goldberg. It has helped me so much!
cheryl at cliopatra dot net
What Clients Love, by Harry Beckwith. For my business, 2009 was focused on taking our client experience to the next level, and refining our sales-approach, and this book helped push us in the right direction!
This is a wonderful giveaway and something that I think everyone covets.
I think the book that has helped me the most is Randy Pausch's "The Last Lecture" with dealing with life and work. (I am a teacher... its hard to remember what is important sometimes when teaching struggling readers.)
Ben Franklin's 12 Rules of Management helped me be a better manager teaching me that I have to manage myself before managing others.
When I am feeling a lack of creativity I pick up a Harry Potter book. Totally dorky but I am always struck by the sheer imaginative power of JK Rowling.
These books remind me that when you unleash your imagination inspiration will strike! True inspiration is what sets apart great business ideas.
This is a great contest. I really hope that I can win it. It would make for a great Christmas Gift for myself. Thanks
I recently finished John Maxwell's "Developing the Leader Within YOu" and there was one specific line that really made me think, "A problem is something I can do something about. If I can’t do something about it, its not my problem."
I tend to take on other people's problems and eventually stress myself out about them... This simple statement has reminded me to focus on the things I can do something about. If I can't do something about it, its not worth the stress. Life is slowly becoming less stressful.
I'd have to say Life and Death in Shanghai by Nien Cheng. It taught me how strong a person can be and how much they can overcome. We are often capable of far more than we could ever possibly imagine. Remembering that helps me set higher and greater goals.
I just recently finished reading Chic Entrepeneur. It is a good read and helps you focus on what is your niche and target market and how to reach them sucessfully.
First, Purple Cow, for the reminder it always is to me about what makes a new product worthy of being "new".
And second, The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, which reminds me to be brave and be myself.
Thanks Liene! Great idea!
Ooooh I would love a kindle. I would have to say without a doubt, the book that has inspired and influenced my life is "The Way You Wear Your Hat: Frank Sinatra and the Lost Art of Livin" by Bill Zehme. Let's face it, nobody has loved and lost like Frank.
THanks so much Liene!
While this book is industry-specific I LOVED Fast-Track Photographer by Dane Sanders. I really think I'll probably read it once a year for awhile.
The book that I read during this past year that has had the most impact on my business is, "The Go Giver" by Bob Burg and John David Mann. In a world where so many people are consumed in the concept of "what is in it for me" it so so wonderful to be reminded the secret of your success is giving. It is a must read for everyone - not just for your business but your personal life.
The Monk's of New Skete's The Art of Raising a Puppy. I couldn't do anything without my best friend and this book taught me how to be his best friend. Also, the Monks of New Skete have another fantastic book, How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend.
awesome book - Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk.....
totally motivating to go after what you want... easy read!
The book that has helped me the most is Blue Ocean Strategy. It has forced me to think outside of the box and create tools that will give me a competitive advantage in the industry.
A few months ago my two year old and I checked out the book Carry Me by Rosemary Wells from the library. It's a children's book filled with three poems, each with a theme: carry me, sing to me, talk to me. It is a very sweet book but as I sat reading it to my daughter it was such a good reminder that there is such a small window of time when I am everything to my child, she is looking to me to help her explore the world but even the smallest, simplest things are huge to her.
I'm so excited! Fingers are crossed that I win! Thanks for this awesome giveaway!
The book that I recommend is: "the dream manager" by Matthew Kelly.
This book is a fable about re-discovering our dreams and exploring them in our everyday lives. It reminds us of the impact dreams can have on individuals and teams. It also describes the "dream manager program" and how it can change individuals, as well as businesses.
"Dreams are invisible but powerful. Life is about living our dreams.
"What's your dream & what are you doing about it?"
This holiday season we are loving Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint Exupery, which is now in a beautiful artistic pop-up version. This sweet book expounds the lovely notion of enlightment through exploration. L+D
A book that has tremendously helped me is "Leading From The Front: No-Excuse Leadership Tactics For Women" by former Marines Courtney Lynch and Angie Morgan. It discusses 10 key practices that can help women become effective leaders in life and business. It also points out the mistakes women often make which prevents us from achieving success.
Julia Cameron's book, The Artist's Way helped me brave a new life as an artist like I had always dreamed of. She helped me find recovery in bringing that inner-artist to life through careful examination and exploration of who I am as an artist. It has made a huge difference in my life both personally and creatively.
I have read many business and self help books, but Blink by Malcom Gladwell (as well as his other books) has really been influential. It helped me to see the way things works and gave me some understanding of my own abilities.
The book that has made the most impact on my business is Getting Things Done by David Allen. I am now running an organized, stress-free business thanks to that book and the iphone app that goes with it! Everyone should look into it!
Best Business Practices for Photographers by John Harrington totally helped with the business side of things.
"Gorgeously Green" is an awesome book that really opened my eyes to see how the products we use every day can affect our environmental and personal health!
The E-Myth Revisted -great as I was thinking of starting my business. Makes sure you don't get overwhelmed with the things you aren't good at - awesome.
Hands down, Please Understand Me 2. Understanding personality types has been very key to my personal and professional growth.
So, it was a long time ago, I was probably in 3rd grade, but Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich always stuck with me. Such a smart business man so many years ago.... not sure about the wishing myself into riches, but his business sense was and is spot on :)
KP
"Eat That Frog" by Brian Tracy has been a great, quick read when I've needed to get focused and sift through a mountain of tasks. It has helped me to identify and complete the ones that will have the most impact and has helped me to become much more productive overall.
thanks for having such an inspired idea and making it a reality! fun :)
'the power of now' by eckhart tolle is one of my all time favorite books. it speaks to the power of the moment, and deals with quantum physics on a digestible level. this book is not a quick read or novel, more of a life-long companion.
happy holidays!
"Eat, Pray, Love" is a great read -- both entertaining, and an invitation to pause and reflect on life.
It's absolutely ridiculous, but I read Little Women for the first time when I was 9 and have probably read it 14 or 15 times since then (and went through 3 copies!) As a little girl, as a teenager and even now I relate so much to Jo and her ability to be her own person, go against the flow and sacrifice for what she believes in. Love, love love it!!!! Seriously, though, I DO know that I'm sappy. :-)
What a valuable giveaway--not just because the prize is so great, but because the comments are worthwhile reading, too. It's so helpful go hear what books have been important for others.
The book that has been so important for me in life is The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom. It helps me put my life into perspective and her generous life is an inspiration.
Thanks for the great content you bring to your blog.

What a great contest, but as I tried to think of my absolute favorite book the challenge started. Little Women and the Little House on the Praire series ignited my passion for reading as a young girl. I would have to say the best business and personal book was "Positively You" by Jinger Heath. It inspires the reader to really identify the barriers in our lives that are keeping us from reaching our full potential. Challenging yourself personally and constantly reaching outside your comfort zones is the key to success. I love looking back at my notes in the book from 20 years ago and seeing where I have come from and where I need to re-focus at times. It is a very inspiring book for women to find their strength and push towards their destiny.
Blink by Malcolm Gladwell has helped me both in life and business. Outside of common sense, research and knowledge there is a lot to be said about trusting your gut! It has served me well many times.
A book that has had a huge impact on me is "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortensen. Greg's journey to help educate the children of afghanistan, and the struggles he's faced/overcome to help so many voiceless children is so inspirational. It reminds me of the blessings that I have, that I should take the time to help others, and that I shouldn't let obstacles keep me from following my dreams.
Okay, I wasn't going to enter, because I read my books on my Kindle iPhone app plus I couldn't decide on which book to pick, because I love to read. I was threatened by my sister to enter and was told that if I win I have to give the Kindle to her:) A book that I recently read and enjoyed was The Five Dysfunctions of a Team . The five dysfunctions are Inattention to Results , Avoidance of Accountability , Lack of Commitment , Fear of Conflict , and Absence of of Trust . The book has really helped me to think about our team and how we can overcome these dysfunctions.
Liene- this is such an awesome giveaway! I love to read and need to schedule more time to do so.
If you can't loose it, decorate it by Anita Renfroe. It focuses on how to deal with things that may be in your life that you don't think are positive. Not everything in our life is the way that we want it, but with a positive attitude we can realize how it affects us and turn it around.
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff for Men was a great little book. Life is too short to worry about stuff that is just not that important. It really did help me get my priorities straight.
My most recent favorite is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, but I actually will have to say that, just today, I'm revisiting an old workbook copy of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. I need to tackle a big weakness of mine that's really holding me back, I didn't know how to define it, and I immediately found what I was looking for - so happy it was on my shelf...now to tackle it...
Thanks, Liene! Great browsing through all these comments!
One of the most inspiring books I have read is Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. It reminds us all to open ourselves to others no matter what our first impressions may be.
I love to read Inspirational books. The last book I read was "The Shack". This amazing story will challenge you to consider the person and plan of God. It changed the way I think about God forever.
Captivating by John and Staci Eldridge has taught me how to properly embrace being a woman and how to except and love myself.
How exciting! A book that has helped me with life has to be The Outsiders (Susan Eloise Hinton). It showed me that being myself was okay and not changing for other people is better than conforming. Plus, Johnny and Ponyboy are influential characters man!
orangeinsanity(at)hotmail(dot)com
I just read "Character is Key" and it truly made me think about how I was raising my son. It was very helpful and it has changed my views on a few things for sure!

What a wonderful giveaway idea!
I have to say that I have 2 books, it's just so hard to pick only one.
1- Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Known as The Little Prince in English, this book is a quick read and in my opinion, is so much better in French. I first read this book when I was 12 years old and remember thinking to myself that I would remember to always stay young at heart. I begin every year by reading my oldest and most favorite book and take a little time to remind myself of how beautiful life really is and take note of the little things.
2- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. This book, about a young boy dealing with the awkwardness that comes with teendom really helped me to accept my awkwardness. I absolutely love this book. It's so great to be reminded that I wasn't the only awkward teenager who struggled to fit the mold and that I'm better for it.
While my library of university text books, wedding and event planning, design, and etiquette books is brimming, it's funny that the book that has had a lasting impression in my life is "Chicken Soup for the Soul." I know, it's a bit silly, but I read this book back in high school, re-read it in college, and again not too long ago. What's so great about this book is that it's simple. It reminds me that whatever day I'm having, any setback I encounter, and any achievement I accomplish, I am surrounded by pretty amazing people and I can do whatever I put my mind to! It's stuck with me all of those years! It's a great fun "read" for anyone and is a constant reminder that life should be fun, fulfilling, and whatever one does should be rewarding.

Oh, this is my favorite kind of giveaway! Books!! One of my recent favorites is Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. He is just so hilarious. I laughed out loud reading some of the excerpts.
