On Being Flexible

The problem with being flexible is that it means people will be more likely to take you for granted.

"Oh, he's so easy to work with, he'll understand if we don't treat him as VIP as these other people who have bigger egos."

"She won't complain, so we'll stick her needs at the end of our to-do list."

It's not fair, but the problem in this situation isn't you. Being flexible doesn't mean being a doormat, and there are still battles worth fighting for, but even with all the drawbacks, the far better choice is still flexibility.
