2012 wedding statistics

Over the past year Splendid Insights has surveyed over 13,000 couples who were married in 2012. We stopped collecting data for 2012 on March 1st of this year so that weddings from all twelve months of the past year could be represented.

The first two reports with the 2012 wedding statistics and market research are now available: the 2012 Global Wedding Study General Report and the 2012 Global Wedding Study Luxury Budgets Report (wedding budgets of $96,000 or greater). In the coming weeks we'll be releasing the other budget segments as well as regional segments with the new insights from 2012.

It has been interesting to note the differences between couples married in 2011 and 2012. Some of the changes are subtle and some are significant. Globally, the use of wedding apps is up and responses are indicating that the apps now on the market are becoming more relevant to how couples are planning. Spending in the Economical ($10,000 or less), Standard ($11,000 - $30,000) and Luxury ($96,000 or greater) budget categories all increased while couples spending in the premium budget category ($31,000 - $95,000) decreased. One of the most significant changes was in the high end of the luxury segment: the amount of couples with wedding budgets of $1 million or more DOUBLED from 2011 to 2012. There is much more, of course, but I wanted to share a snapshot of a few of the changes.

The 2012 reports are formatted in a similar style to the 2011 reports so that you can compare them as you evaluate how to use the different insights and statistics to move your business forward.

All of the photos for the 2012 global wedding study reports were provided by the talented Nancy Ray.

Both the general report and the luxury budgets report can be purchased here.
